Zero regrets life

Buh Bye, regret.

Everyone wants to live without regret. My grandmother is about to turn 100. She has no regrets. I recently asked her how she made it happen. Here it is, in three steps.

Step 1: Don’t just be open to change, chase it. Every day. Routine has its place, but lulls us to sleep. Stay awake by changing. Do the unexpected in both dramatic and inconsequential ways. If your day/week/year looks too predictable, change something. It’ll serve as a caffeine jolt for the soul.

Step 2: Surprise yourself. Behave in ways you normally wouldn’t. Act like the characteristics you admire in others are already woven into your very fabric. Be courageous, compassionate and confident. Get out of your own way and live as the person you’ve always wanted to be. Do it now, because someday turns into yesterday faster than a firefly’s glow.

Step 3: Let people be uncomfortable with your new and different ways. Be such a big, bold chaser of change that they wonder what’s gotten into you. Welcome the chatter about how different you seem. It’s a good sign. You’re changing, and living the regret-free life most people dream of.

You can always go back to the way you were and “old you” routines, but treat them as your safety net or nap mat. Stretch your inner and outer muscles, shake off the dust of sameness, and wake up to all the possibilities of your life. It’s time to create new realities. You’ll never, ever regret it.

Keep changing, Soulshine. I can see your glow from here.
